Chinchillas are available for adoption with Cali_FID in MODESTO, CALIFORNIA.

Looking for a new chinchilla companion? We may have the perfect match for you!

Chinchillas at Cali_FID Rescue are often taken in from difficult situations, given sanctuary, and provided with the care they need to recover and thrive. Due to their temperature sensitivity, they are not usually brought to adoption events. Instead, an application and appointment are required to meet them. Please note that we do not ship or transport animals.

All chinchillas are housed in foster homes and cared for in pet-friendly settings.

Adopters are expected to provide their carrier, enclosure, and supplies. The adoption fee covers the animal only. However, gently used supplies may be available for a small donation—first come, first served, while supplies last.

As a special bonus for adopters:

Small Pet Select is gifting a free 5lb box of hay (shipping included, voucher provided at adoption).

Chinnie Boutique is offering 20% off your first accessory purchase (voucher provided at adoption).

About me:

Meet this little jumping bean who came to the rescue ! His foster Emily is taking some time to pick the perfect name for him. For now, we are calling him JB because he absolutely loves to jump around. ( I had to catch him as he attempted to escape )

At this time, we are on an intake hold and are only accepting surrenders under special circumstances. With the family’s permission, I am able to share that JB came to the rescue due to his owner suffering from cirrhosis with severe brain damage. They were truly unable to care for him, and the family expressed concern that someone sold JB to their sibling at all as they were in no condition to care for a pet.

When things became unmanageable, JB was taken in by other family members. They purchased him a large cage, plenty of supplies, and began caring for him very well. They expected to be placed on a long waitlist, as all California rescues that take chinchillas are currently full.

Thankfully, we have had a few recent adoptions and a foster willing to help, which made it possible for JB to come into rescue. We were surprised to see how much effort they put into preparing for JB, they did a great job selecting a safe cage, and quality supplies which they in turn kindly donated for the rescue to use for JB and other animals in our care. It's not something we see every day in rescue. After they left, they even made a generous donation ( again, unicorn stuff today ).

As you can see, JB is missing about half of his tail. The family does not know whether he was sold that way or if the injury occurred while in their sibling’s care. Sometimes mothers accidentally remove part of a tail during birth if a kit is breech or becomes stuck. In other cases, the tail can be broken or degloved if grabbed improperly and JB did free roam the space but In either case, the injury is fully healed and has left him with a little stubby tail. He's not phased by it.

JB is a standard grey male and approximately 8 months old. He will be under a 2 week quarantine before we can consider placing him up for adoption.

To adopt, you must apply with Cali_FID Rescue. Go to www.califidparrotandexotic.com and fill out the adoption application.
