About me:
SAFE!
Welcome to the rescue, Josh & Alfie
(Named after two of the rescue’s generous donors.)
Josh and Alfie are two boys who were at risk of being dumped in a local park in Fremont, CA at the end of this month. We told the family we would take them, thanks to a foster stepping up just in time.
They are 6 years old, and are very stinky and greasy-dirty, with pee-stained bellies and butts. Don’t let the photos fool you as the camera is very kind to chinchillas . We began removing matting while speaking with the family and learned that the pair hadn't had a dust bath in a long time.
Joining just in time to join me for my birthday. We’ll be sending them home with a care package, made possible by those of you who’ve been sending supplies to Harper specifically for situations like this.
Now go ahead and let that anger out (I had to). I have more context for the situation now.
These chinchillas were originally purchased for an older sibling. When they moved out, they were handed off to the younger sibling, who has cared for them for a couple of years. During this time, the chinchillas depended entirely on her—and the parents—for basic care and supplies.
Parents:
Minors cannot financially or physically commit to an animal that can live up to 25 years. I don’t care if your child is 6 or 16 any pet you bring into your home becomes your responsibility until your child is an adult. A supportive family sticks together through these commitments. If you don't want the pet—or the responsibility—say no from the start. Encourage your child to wait until they are established and capable of lifelong care. Animals are not disposable. They are not trash. They are not something you “throw away” when you’re done.
To the parents who allegedly threatened to dump these animals in a park to die a slow, painful death:
Shame on you. You are failing to model responsibility for the young adult in your life. Your child was puffy-faced and sobbing while surrendering their pets, not because they wanted to, but because they feared for their safety. This wasn't a choice, it was a reaction to a situation that should have never happened.
To adopt, you must apply with Cali_FID Rescue. Go to www.califidparrotandexotic.com and fill out the adoption application.
These animals live in FOSTER HOMES. The rescue group does not have a facility for visitors.
If you have any additional questions about Cali_FID’s Chinchillas please contact the rescue group.
